Backyard Science
Literally, the WEEK before we had a field trip titled "Bee People" at which we learned any and everything we'd ever wish to know about bees & beekeeping, a SWARM of bees settled in our backyard tree that was H U G E!!! We didn't know what to make of it, never having seen something like that before. One of the kids grabbed the camera and got some photos while Mom looked up what on earth this could be. At first, we all thought they had moved into our tree for a permanent residence. A little research showed us that they were in search of a new home and only taking a siesta here at Casa Smith...thankfully. They were not aggressive, as they had no "home" to protect. Just sat in a swarm on a tree branch waiting for the scouts to come back with news of their new digs. They were gone the next day.

I love, love, love bees & am so glad y'all got to witness this swarm. Apparently you have a very friendly environment for them to feel safe enough to take a breather before continuing on their search!
Welcome back - you & your posts have been missed!
