JSS and COS listening to an Urban Biologist
teach them about how to tell what lives
in an area by what we find there...
and how those animals affect the environment.
Just wanted to throw this one in
of JSS on a Cub Scout night. :)
Above and Below:
Kids are weaving mats to go under
the water bowl & the dogs dish.
Here is JSS's mat, which has been
laminated and placed under our pets'
water dish (one dog & four cats share).
Learning how to properly care for your
pets, including brushing your long-haired dog.
We let JSS and COS eat like dogs one night at dinner.
Field trip to the SPCA to learn about
all kinds of animals, their care, how
to chose the right pet for your family
and overall pet health care.
Just a little visiting after the SPCA program.
Field trip to the National Scouting
Museum, which served as a
"sneak peek" for our next study,
which begins the following week:
Above, having some fun with the Derby
Racing display, wonderfully hands-on!
Below, getting in some target practice.
There were creepy mannequins all over
the museum that spoke with us.
Freaky and did not enjoy them.
Fitness-themed game was a lot of work
and we never really got the hang of it.
But it was fun trying!
Knot-tying display was EXCELLENT
and we got the hang of four common
knots in a matter of just a few minutes!
We went behind-the-scenes at a
veterinary clinic.
Our educational consultant was
a most EXCELLENT guide to the
ins-and-outs of the office behind
the scenes.
Got to love on some newborn
kittens brought in that day.

Our Annual St. Jude's Dinner

This year we were blessed with 43 people
joining us at our local Chili's restaurant
to help Pepper in Some Hope in
eradicting childhood cancers.
Here are some photos I took
(above & below)...
The rest are photos that JSS took in a series
I now dub "Body Parts."
I hope you enjoy his artistic vision...

State Fair of Texas, Part 2

AMS with her first place, blue ribbon winning
photo! (the one with the bike)
Grandpa and JSS sharing some
sugary yummy goodness.
Three gorgeous gals I got to hang around with all day.
And some hot studs, even if I do have
to take credit for two of their good looks!
Ah, to be little again and hauled around
lovingly by Grandpa...or Dad.
Taking in some cars at the car show.
JDS with his Grandma.
COS with me while we watched
a parade go by late afternoon.
The little ones took in some rides
around dusk while a few family members
got their thrills on the ferris wheel.
I LOVE JSS' elated face as he whizzes by!!
Jason Castro (sp?) in concert the first
night of the fair. I think he was on
American Idol, but don't know if he won.
Pack muling must run in the blood...
like father (G'pa), like son (Daddy).

State Fair of Texas, Part 1

Grandpa and JSS hamming it up
at the state fair, below

Uncle Richard convinced one of his cousins
and JDS (his great-nephew) to bungie jump
with him at the state fair...and they did!
Here's the before shot...
And some "during" shots...

...and the elated trio after!
What a bonding experience!!!

Red Robin's Best Burger Contest

Burger #1: JSS's "Molten Monster Buffalo Burger"
served with tater tots. HOOOOT!!!
Burger #2: Jss's "Bacon & Swiss Onion Burger"
served with onion rings. YUMMY!
Burger #3: COS's "Dessert Burger"
where every ingredient stood for something
on a traditional hamburger. It was SO GOOD!
She entered it into the contest.
Burger #4: Jss's "Breakfast Burger"
served with hash browns. This is
the one he chose to enter and it was
DELICIOUS, especially once it was
squashed and all the egg ran down the sides!!
